Bush’s Crusade

On September 11th 2001 the war on terror really began. Two airplanes crashed into the twin towers, one striking each tower. Because of this action President Bush reacted in an irrational manner by saying in his speech on September 16th 2001 “This crusade, this war on terror is going to take a while.” The use of the word “crusade” outraged because the word means (any of the Christian military expeditions of the 11th-13th centuries to recover the Holy Land from the Muslims.

To compare the current war to the crusades would and is a terrible idea. Not only because it implies the use of military force but it also means the taking over of land. This word which came out of President Bush’s mouth made many people including Middle Eastern people suspicious. There were two groups of people fighting in the original crusades. They were Christian Europeans and Muslim Middle Easterners.
